Pescărelul negru

            Merg spre casă pe lângă râu. De ce? Pentru că drumul e mai scurt.

            Pe malul opus, o pasăre neagră. E ger. Ce pasăre rezistă la aceste condiții?

            De pe o piatră înzăpezită, pasărea intră în apă. Apare la o distanță. O fi mierlă? Nu cred. Mierlele vin dimineața în livadă sau curte, dar n-am văzut mierle care să se apropie de apă.

            Regret că nu am la mine aparatul foto. Mă opresc și cercetez pasărea. Nu dă semne  că o deranjez. 

            Parcă are un plastron alb.

            Mi-e frig. Mă grăbesc spre casă. Am un atlas cu păsări. Sau caut pe internet.

            Găsesc numele păsării: pescărelul negru sau mierla de apă. Chiar și un filmuleț despre mierla de apă, așa cum o văzusem cu puțin timp în urmă. Este pasărea care ,,merge” pe sub apă. Este adaptată la vânătoarea subacvatică. Trăiește mai ales în zonele montane, întotdeauna în apropierea apelor. Chiar și iarna tinde să stea în locurile fără gheață foarte aproape de apă.

            I am walking home along the river. Why? Because the path is shorter.

            On the opposite bank, a black bird. It is freezing. What bird can withstand these conditions?

            From a snow-covered rock, the bird enters the water. It reappears at a distance. Could it be a blackbird? I don't think so. Blackbirds come to the orchard or the yard in the morning, but I have never seen blackbirds go near the water.

            I regret that I don't have my camera with me. I stop and observe the bird. It shows no signs that I am disturbing it.

            It seems to have a white breast.

            I am cold. I hurry home. I have a bird atlas. Or I'll search on the internet.

            I find the bird's name: the black gull (white-throated dipper) or the water blackbird. Even a short video of the water blackbird, just as I had seen it a short while ago. It is the bird that "walks" underwater. It is adapted for underwater hunting. It lives mostly in mountain areas, always near water. Even in winter, it tends to stay in ice-free spots very close to the water.

            Început de an. Dimineața, devreme. Încă nu se vede bine. Soarele va răsări peste vreo oră.

 

sunete blânde

răzbat din pomii ninși –

sunt păsări?

 

            Un zgomot. Privesc spre  păr. Mierla e prezentă, ca în fiecare zi. Vița de vie a crescut, găsind lumină, printre ramurile părului.

            Mierla ciugulea dintr-un strugure, dintre cei rămași neculeși. Erau prea sus în păr. Alți ciorchini rămăseseră  neculeși, cu gândul la mierlele care vin iarna prin grădinile cartierului.

            Mierla pe care o urmăream n-a zburat. Am trecut cu lemnele pe care le luasem din magazie. Mergeam prudent pe zăpada depusă în timpul nopții.

            Am revenit cu aparatul foto. Am făcut poze cu blitz și fără blitz. Zăpada de pe unele crengi era mai luminoasă și mierla nu se vedea. Doar într-o poză se vede binișor mierla.

            În fiecare iarnă urmăresc mierlele. Îmi permit să mă apropii de ele, dar nu prea mult. Am și fotografii, nu foarte bune.

Morning Guests

 

            Beginning of the year. Early morning. It is not yet clearly visible. The sun will rise in about an hour.

            A noise. I look toward the pear tree. The blackbird is present, as it is every day.

The grapevine has grown, finding light among the branches of the pear tree.

            The blackbird was pecking at a grape, one of those left unpicked.

They were too high in the pear tree. Other clusters had been left unharvested, with the blackbirds that come through the neighborhood gardens in winter in mind.

            The blackbird I was watching did not fly away. I passed by with the wood I had taken from the shed. I walked carefully on the snow that had fallen during the night.

            I returned with the camera. I took photos with and without the flash.

The snow on some branches was brighter and the blackbird could not be seen. Only in one photo can the blackbird be seen fairly well.

            Every winter I watch the blackbirds. They allow myself to get close to them, but not too close. I also have photographs, though they are not very good.

La cules de prune

 

            Începuse un nou an școlar. În prima săptămână, aveam probleme organizatorice: stabilirea claselor, a diriginților, orarul școlii, iar cine avea elevi corigenți pe toamnă organiza examenul de corigență.

            Definitivând situația corigenților, am cerut o zi liberă la sfârșitul săptămânii. În timpul vacanței de vară nu am reușit să-mi vizitez părinții, m-am pregătit să fac acest lucru de ziua mamei, adică de Nașterea Sfintei Maria. 

            Am plecat vineri seara, din Șibot, cu acceleratul Timișoara-Iași. Am schimbat trenul în Salva. Am ajuns înainte de răsăritul soarelui în Vișeul de Jos. În spatele stației era un autobuz, care ne-a dus în oraș.

            Părinții nu ne așteptau. Nu-i anunțaserăm.

            Ne-am odihnit puțin înainte de prânz. După masă, Nina, sora mea, ne solicită ajutorul. Nu reușiseră să culeagă prunele. A fost un an bogat și au avut mult de lucru.

             Am început să adunăm. Lucram cu spor, povestind, glumind, informându-ne. După un timp, am simțit că mi-e frig. De fapt, doar mâinile îmi erau reci.

            Tata ne-a lăsat să lucrăm în continuare și a intrat în casă. După un timp, ne-a chemat în casă. Aprinsese focul în bucătărie și un dormitor.

            Ne-am încălzit cu o cafea și am mers să adunăm prune. Voiam să terminăm lucrul înainte de a se însera.  

            Seara, Nina glumea: „Ce bine că ți-a fost frig ție! Ai văzut că tăticul a aprins focul? E prima dat în această toamnă. Și spui că nu te răsfață…”

            A  urmat o dimineață rece. Am ieșit din bucătărie și am căutat soarele, care tocmai răsărise. Era senin.

            Nici nu știm cum trece ziua mamei: felicitări, rude, vecini, prieteni…

            Seara ne pregătim de plecare. Vom merge tot cu trenuri de noapte, perechile celor cu care venisem. Luni dimineață, trebuie să mergem la școală.

            A new school year had begun. In the first week, we had organizational problems: establishing classes, teachers, the school schedule, and whoever had students who were remedial in the fall was organizing the remedial exam.

            Having finalized the situation of the remedial students, I asked for a day off at the end of the week. During the summer vacation, I was unable to visit my parents, so I prepared to do so on Mother's Day, that is, on the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

            We left Şibot, on Friday in the evening, with the Timișoara-Iași express train. We changed trains to Salva. We arrived before sunrise in Vișeul de Jos. Behind the station was a bus that took us to the city.

            My parents were not expecting us. We had not announced it.

            We rested a little before lunch. After lunch, Nina, my sister, asked for our help. They hadn't managed to pick the plums. It had been a rich year and they had a lot of work.

            We started to gather. We worked hard, telling stories, joking, informing each other. After a while, I felt that I was cold. In fact, only my hands were cold.

            Dad let us continue working and went into the house. After a while, he called us into the house. He had lit a fire in the kitchen and a bedroom.

            We warmed ourselves with coffee and went to gather the plums. We wanted to finish the work before nightfall.

            In the evening, Nina joked: "It's good that you were cold! Did you see that Daddy lit the fire? It's the first time this autumn. And you say he doesn't spoil you..."

            A cold morning followed. I left the kitchen and looked for the sun, which had just risen. It was clear.

            We don't even know how Mother's Day is going: congratulations, relatives, neighbors, friends...

            In the evening we prepare to leave. We will still go by night trains, the pairs of those we came with. Monday morning, we have to go to school.
